IN THE SPOTLIGHT: BRITISH HERB’S SIGNATURE PAINTS

“I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.”
Oscar Wilde

When it comes to food, we’ve got to agree with Wilde. What could be better, simpler or more delicious and nutritious than British herbs. There’s no excuse for bland fare particularly when you have such a range of herby flavours on your doorstep.

But we don’t necessarily have the time to go hunting in the hedgerows or working in the garden for those interesting flavours. Life is busy, and British Herb Kitchen wants you to be able to enjoy British herbs without adding to your to-do list.

And so our signature herb paints were born: a versatile and effortlessly artisan store cupboard staple. Unsurprisingly perhaps, they’ve quickly become one of our top-selling products.

In our experience, they’re equally delicious on a lamb cutlet, a salmon fillet or a cauliflower steak – we’re yet to find a dish that isn’t enhanced by our paints’ powerful pops of flavour. They’re so versatile they’ll double up as pesto, a marinade or a spread. Maximum impact for minimum effort.

To use? Simply brush on the paint and pop in the oven or under the grill  and – hey presto – you’ve got a meal bursting with home-grown British flavour.

Our range currently boasts three paints: Dill, Anchovy and Chilli, Chervil and Mint and Wild Garlic and Walnut, the most recent and very seasonal addition to the family (see our recent blog post about foraging including a great resource on what’s in season when here) .

Chervil and Mint paint brings together the light, aniseed-esque flavour of lesser-known chervil with sweet, cool mint – a heavenly combination that works well with a wide range of food. Dill, Anchovy and Chilli paint (available here) balances the fresh blast of dill with a gentle warmth from chilli plus a hint of salty anchovy. Try it with fish, chicken or even roast potatoes.

Wild Garlic and Walnut is fresh from the British Herb Kitchen workbench, and brings together the familiar taste of garlic (albeit more mellow and grassy than its supermarket cousin) with walnut’s sweetness and spice. Just divine.

If you’re looking to get creative in the kitchen without spending hours slaving over a hot stove, you might want to try one – hop over to the online shop or catch us at the Ely Food Festival this weekend!
